Cirrus SR20

GAPiston single-engine

Last updated: 2026-04-21

The Cirrus SR20 is the 200 hp entry-level model in the Cirrus family, sharing the CAPS whole-aircraft parachute and Perspective avionics with the SR22 but offering lower operating costs for PPL and early IR training. It is a workhorse of European EASA general-aviation training fleets, used at both DTO and ATO operators for hour-building and rating progression. Its straightforward piston single-engine layout is ideal for early SEP rating training.

What is the Cirrus SR20 used for in flight training?

The SR20 introduces students to Cirrus's glass-cockpit ecosystem at a lower hourly cost than the SR22, building the G1000-equivalent proficiency that underpins the entire product line. Its 200 hp engine and moderate performance make it less demanding during initial airwork, while the composite construction keeps weight low and efficiency high. Students trained on the SR20 transition smoothly to the SR22 for CPL and IR hours. Many owners use the SR20 for training-to-own programmes, anticipating upgrading to the SR22 after licence completion.
