Cirrus SR22

GAPiston single-engine

Last updated: 2026-04-21

The Cirrus SR22 is a 310 hp, composite, low-wing single with a whole-aircraft parachute (CAPS), Perspective+ avionics, and top-tier IFR capability, attracting both CPL candidates and owner-pilots. It is a workhorse of European EASA general-aviation training fleets, used at both DTO and ATO operators for hour-building and rating progression. Its straightforward piston single-engine layout is ideal for early SEP rating training.

What is the Cirrus SR22 used for in flight training?

The SR22's Perspective+ avionics are arguably the most advanced found in any training single, making it excellent preparation for glass-cockpit jet operations. Students must develop strong automation management skills, as the sophisticated autopilot can mask poor situational awareness if used incautiously. The 310 hp turbocharged TN variant teaches high-altitude operations and turbocharger management. The CAPS parachute provides genuine last-resort safety assurance during training in remote areas. European ATOs and training-to-own programmes use the SR22 for IR, CPL cross-country, and ATPL skill-test preparation.
